Take Control of Your TBR Pile March 2014 Challenge

 

The Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.   I really need to get control of my TBR pile!  I have books that I bought as soon as they came out only to sit on my bookshelf for years.  So, as soon as I finish my current read (and ARC), I am definitely going to concentrate on my TBR pile for this month.

2014 TBR Pile Reading Challenge

    I am joining the 2014 TBR Pile Reading Challenge hosted by Evie at Bookish.  It's one month into the year but better late than never, right?   I have SO many books on my TBR pile that I thought this year I am actually going to cut back on my ARCs and do a little more of my TBRs.  I am actually going to be very ambitious and sign up at the "Could This Be Love?" level, which is to read 41-50 TBRs.  So, here is a preliminary list of the books I plan to read:   1.  Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo 2. 2013 TBR Pile Reading Challenge

Well friends, it is that time of year again...the time of year where we sign up for challenges!  This year I am signing up for the 2013 TBR pile challenge, hosted by Evie over at Bookish.  I have SO many books I need to read (for example, I read Hunger Games way back when and am just now reading Catching Fire....sad huh?)...so here are the rules:

Challenge Guidelines:

1. This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2013 - Dec 31, 2013.
2. Anyone can enter! You don't have to be a blogger, as long as you review the book you've read! (On your blog, Amazon or Goodreads/Shelfari!)
3. Any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it is a book that's been sitting on your shelf for some time now. Only books released in 2012 and earlier! NO  2013 ARCs and 2013 fresh-off-the-press releases allowed!
4. You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.
5. When you sign up in the linky, put the direct link to your post about joining the 2013 TBR PILE Reading Challenge. (If you don't have a blog, post about it on Facebook or Tweet!)
6. You can move up levels, but no moving down.
7. Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2013, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.
8. On the 20th of each month one of the hosts will post a wrap-up. Every wrap-up will have it's unique theme, a mini-challenge, a giveaway and place for you to link up your reviews from this month. For each review you link up, you will get one entry in a drawing of one book of choice from Book Depository. It's open to INTERNATIONALS. The giveaway will be open until the next wrap up post goes up! (i.e. the entire month)
9. If you miss a wrap-up post + giveaway, you can link up your reviews next month. Do not, however, try to link up one review twice - we will be checking ;) 
10. December is a wrap-up for the whole year. All the book reviews you linked up January-November + the ones you'll link up in December will be entered into a HUGE giveaway - a box of books. 
11. You don't have to follow all the hosts to join the challenge, but you do have to follow all of us to be entered in giveaways!

2012 ARC Reading Challenge

This challenge is hosted by Teddy at So Many Precious Books, So Little Time.  Since I have SO many ARCs that I have signed up to read I figured this would be a good challenge for me.  It will probably be my one and only challenge of this year.

2011 Challenge Update

Here is the update for the challenges I am involved in this year.  Some are going great and others I need to get moving on!

Cozy Mystery Challenge:  I have read one out of 5 for this challenge but I have the rest on my shelf so I will be completing this one for sure!  Click on the picture to see what I have read and my thoughts.

This is by far the challenge that I have done the best on.  I have read 17 out of 50 books for this one. Again, click above to see my reviews and what States I have visited!

My intentions were so good with this one and yet I am failing!  I have only read one lonely book out of 50!  But, you can click on the picture to see what that one book was. 

So, now that I have seen how horribly I am doing, I am going to post this and go read!  I gotta get moving here, people!

2011 New Year's Resolution Challenge

Yes, I know I said "no more challenges" but this is not a reading challenge.  My friend Marie, over at Just A Mom has started a challenge to get organized, get healthier, be a better mom and so on.  She is going to post both a daily challenge (something like clean off the magnets from the fridge, wipe it down and only put what is necessary back up) and weekly challenges (like pick your messiest drawer and clean it out on Saturday, next messiest and clean out on Sunday, etc.). 

The great thing is, every time you do a weekly and/or daily challenge, you head over to her blog on the following Saturday and leave a comment on what challenges you did or tried to do and you get entered into a monthly drawing for a great giveaway!  That means you can get up to 8 entries a week which means between 32 to 40 entries a month (depending on how many weeks there are in that month).  And like Marie says, even if you don't win the prize, you still win because you are that much more organized, healthier, etc.

2011 Mini Challenge

This is a fun mini-challenge hosted by Lazy Girl Reads and since it's a mini-challenge, I figure I can sign up for it even though I said no more challenges.  It's just a little one, right?

The 50 States Challenge is hosted by Book Obsessed.

Scared Sh*tless Reading Challenge

Do you get a sick pleasure out of things that go bump in the night? When you read a scary story, do you turn the lights down as far as you can and read by candlelight with a blanket over your head? Banned Books Challenge

I am signing up to do the Banned Books challenge over at Steph Su Reads.  If you want to know more about this challenge or join, just read on!

Censorship. A nasty word, a horrible concept, and yet it never goes away, does it? Especially in adolescent literature, authors who dare to write about serious or controversial topics are often slammed, shunned, and criticized. Earlier this month a teen lit festival in Texas disinvited bestselling YA author Ellen Hopkins because a handful of adults felt that she and her books are not appropriate literature for children. Last year I StephSu talked about an English teacher who got under fire because she used YA books as supplementary texts beside the regular English curriculum. Censorship, censorship, it comes and it goes, but it's always there.

Banned Books Week 2010 is coming up soon, between September 25 and October 2. However, we bloggers, lovers, readers, writers, and supporters of YA lit are going to make this bigger and better. Donna at Bites has put together a Ban This! celebration for the months of September and October, encouraging bloggers to link to their reviews of banned or challenged books, or otherwise feature them in some way or another on your blogs.

The Banned Books Reading Challenge 2010

Goals of This Challenge:

To bring attention to books that have been challenged or banned

To support authors whose freedom of expression have been questioned or challenged by buying and reading their books

To increase awareness of censorship
The best way to fight censorship is to do what these challengers rarely do, and that is to READ the books that have been challenged and educate ourselves on their content and impact on our society!
Guidelines:
The challenge will run from September 1, 2010 to October 15, 2010.

The challenge is open to any reader with an online blogging platform who'd like to participate.

I personally will devote my attention towards mostly YA literature challenged within the last decade and challenged classics.

The left-hand sidebar of the ALA Frequently Challenged Books site features many ways in which challenged books are broken down by year, decade, type of challenge, etc. Very fascinating to look at.

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has a great website dedicated to Banned Books Week, the freedom to read, and reviews of banned books.

The Illinois Library Association issues a fantastic bibliography every year noting the books challenged that year. This could help you a lot with more recently challenged books.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas has compiled a shocking list of challenges made in the state.

Fall Into Reading challenge

I am feeling the need to add another challenge to my life apparently :) so I signed up for the Fall into Reading challenge hosted by A Chick Who Reads.  Head on over and join the challenge too!  Here are the details:

Timeline:  September 1 - November 30, 2010

Goal:  Complete 12 reading prompts:
