Book Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Sparks are igniting, flames are spreading and the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before...and surprising readers at every turn.
My Thoughts:  I am sure that I am the last person to read this book!  I read the first one and LOVED it and then got swamped with ARC reviews.  With all that is going on with my life I have quit doing ARC reviews for a little bit and I have finally found some time to catch up on some of the books I haven't read yet.  This book was so amazing that I really wish I would have read it right after Hunger Games but hey....better late than never right?
Katniss and Peeta are back home in District 12 after winning the Hunger Games.  They are getting ready to go on the Victory Tour and have to remember that they are madly in love.  For Peeta this is not hard but Katniss finds it difficult, especially with her feelings for Gale.  When President Snow makes a surprise visit to Katniss' house before the tour, Katniss knows that she must put on the show of a lifetime.
While touring, Katniss and Peeta find out that there are a few districts that are unhappy with the Capitol. In fact, it appears that there are uprisings happening in at least one district, if not more.  Once home from the tour, Peeta and Katniss must decide if they should run or if they should help with the uprisings.
Then the Quarter Quell happens.  This happens every 25 years of the Games.  The Capitol throws in some surprise to make the Games more interesting.  This year, it is a doozy!  I won't tell you what happens because if there happens to be someone out there who hasn't read this yet, I don't want to spoil it.
I loved the characters in this book!  Katniss and Peeta are still amazing and I loved Haymitch!  I really enjoyed the new characters that were introduced and how they played into the ending.  The ending was completely unexpected and very surprising for me.  I loved it but at the same time it was a little sad.
If you haven't read this series, it is a must read for sure!  Like Hunger Games, Catching Fire keeps your interest the entire book and  you will find it extremely hard to put down, even for a minute!

  1. I really loved this second book and can't wait to reread it next year before the film comes out. Hoping for a review of Mockingjay to come soon :)
